Breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries. Women wishing to increase the size and improve the shape and lift of their breasts have several sizes, shapes, and textures to choose from. It’s important to consider the risks and benefits that correspond to the sizes and shapes available. Let’s take a moment right now to look at the basic size and shape concerns of breast implants. When you visit our Oklahoma City plastic surgery center, we can answer these concerns in more detail.

Size of the Breast Implants

Breast implants sizes, measured in cubic centimeters (cc’s) vary widely, ranging from 125cc to 1200cc. The size you choose will depend on your body type and the look you are aiming for.

Women looking for a younger, more natural look usually choose smaller implants. Smaller implants are less likely to interfere with an active lifestyle and are generally less prominent.

Women looking to more dramatically increase the size and curvature of their breasts may choose larger implants, usually considered 600cc or larger. Larger implants are, obviously, more noticeable than conservative implants. Larger implants may interfere with some physical activity, and they have a higher chance of rippling and rupturing, though this is a risk with any implant. However, it is not uncommon that women who get smaller implants wish they had chosen larger implants, and return for further Oklahoma City breast augmentation surgery.

Shape of Breast Implants

Breast implants may either be round or teardrop shaped. While choosing the shape you and your surgeon should consider your body type, the amount of existing breast tissue, the place of the implant, and the location of the incision site.

Round Breast Implants

Round implants are the most common, and are shaped like a flattened sphere. These implants come in four types, from low projection to high projection (projection is the breasts’ distance from the chest wall). Round implants create a more pronounced cleavage, and fullness at the top of the breasts.

Teardrop-Shaped Breast Implants

Teardrop implants are tapered at the top and fill out toward the bottom. Because they are similar to the shape of natural breasts, many women looking for a more natural shape choose these implants. Teardrop implants also have greater projection than similarly sized round implants. However, teardrop implants require a rough texture to stay in place, and are generally more expensive than round implants.
